Léon Verhaeghe from Morsleede in Flanders, left his native country in the early 20th century to settle in south-western France. His son Charles together with his wife Marie-Thérèse started a farm with mixed cultures in 1958 planting some vines on the property, and adding one hectare of vineyards every year, among three different plots. The first bottling was done in 1973.
Today the estate is run by their sons, Pascal and Jean-Marc. Motorsport fanatic Pascal discovered all things vinous, or rather rediscovered them, through a Burgundian friend Jean-Marie Guffens with whom he stayed on the way home from the Bol d’Or in 1980. He’d only planned on staying for one night but, several days later, it was there that he experienced his first harvest. Eight years later, having completed his oenology studies at Macon Davayé and work experience in both Burgundy and Napa Valley, he decided to take on the family estate with his brother who had also just graduated in oenology from Tour Blanche in Sauterne.
